Lose weight. Exercise more. Eat healthier. Sure, you could make these New Year’s resolutions. Of course, making resolutions to improve your health and well-being are great. But wouldn’t you want to make some resolutions you’d enjoy keeping?

According to Discover Happy Habits, 46% of people who make a resolution are successful at keeping them after six months. That figure drops to 4% when people have similar goals to resolutions but don’t actually make New Year’s resolutions. When they fail to keep their resolutions, they tend to set unrealistic goals, do not track their progress, forget they set resolutions at all, or made too many resolutions. But you stuck to creating your man cave, so surely, you can keep a New Year’s resolution!

As you’re trying to drop the pumpkin pie weight from Thanksgiving and the Christmas party weight from December, resolve to do more fun things this year. And start with your man cave. Add one of the following New Year’s resolutions for your man cave to your list.

Upgrade Your Man Cave Barware

Maybe you had a man cave barware set on your Christmas list but didn’t get it. A New Year’s resolution to upgrade your man cave barware is the perfect opportunity to rectify that gifting omission. You’ll set yourself up to have the most relaxing one-man happy hours all year long. Pair your new set with the best lowball whiskey glasses or a new man cave bar cart, and your man cave will be the envy of your buddies.

Invite Friends Over More Often

Your man cave is an expression of your personal taste, and it’s only natural to want to share this space with your friends. Resolve to invite friends over more often. Even if you have a small man cave, you can find a spare spot or two for friends to sit and relax with you. They want to come over, but they’re not going to invite themselves. Allow them in, and get to know each other better. Share some snacks, and develop deeper relationships.

Personalize Your Man Cave Decor

You shouldn’t just put a big screen TV in front of an old couch and call it a man cave. That’s a start, but you need to make the space your own. Find decor items that speak to you. Think about the things that you like, and place objects around the room that remind you of those things.

Are you a comic book fan? Maybe you should get some superhero swag for your Marvel man cave. Or are you a football fanatic? Then, make your room an NFL man cave. Have you built with Legos since your were five years old? Decorate with grown up Lego sets to show you’re still a kid at heart.

Take More Time for Self-Care

Decompressing from stressful situations is important for your mental and physical health. Your man cave can be the sanctuary you need for practicing self-care. When you take care of yourself, you’re better able to take care of others. Self-care is good for you and your family. So resolve to take more time for self-care.
